The Green House, Inveresk
THE GREEN HOUSE, INVERESK
Location: Inveresk
Value: £650K
Project Duration: 36 Weeks
Designer: Gray Marshall
Project Description:
This new one bedroom home was constructed in the original walled garden of Eskhill House in Inveresk Village. Our client’s owned Eskhill House and had a desire to downsize their living arrangements. When we first met the client’s they showed us a drawing with their vision of how they hoped the property would look in a few years.
The new house is built against the original boundary of the walled garden with a concrete raft floor slab from which a structural steel frame was erected. On the rear elevation the steelwork was infilled with timber cassette panels and on the front elevations a Skyframe curtain wall system was installed. The roof received a built-up sedum roof.
Internally the floor finish was Caithness slate throughout on screed on Underfloor Heating. We carried out all the external hard landscaping with the client completing the soft landscaping. On completion of the house we negotiated the contract to refurbish the 17th Century Doocot which is now a study and sitting room.
Some 4 years after first meeting the client it has been a privilege to assist them in fulfilling their vision.
The completed project was short listed for The Saltire Awards 2018
Testimonial From Client:
“The standard of workmanship was generally excellent, the joinery work is of exceptionally high quality and your site manager always ensured that sub-contractors delivered to your high standards. Staff of John Dennis, both management and your site operatives were a pleasure to work with and all seemed to take the attitude that they were there to get the job done as a team alongside their sub-contractors and my consultants.
No client should expect a complex building project with innovatory features to run its course without a hitch. There were things which did not go to plan, but the John Dennis’ approach was to tackle each as a challenge and a problem to solve.
Never did I hear your staff looking
for a scapegoat but rather they accepted the lead responsibility for finding a resolution to the problem, no matter which trade or sub-contractor had to sort the job. And, when it came to the defects period there was no lack of attention if a fault surfaced.
Having worked on demonstration building projects intended to modernize the industry I can say that your firm’s approach exemplified the partnering model. As a client of building development for most of my career in housing association work, I learnt to be cautious about recommending contractors to others but I have no hesitation in recommending John Dennis for a project of the nature of mine.”
